Beyond the sourcing of ethically produced, quality raw materials, our Principles of Purity oblige us to encourage programs and practices that promote sustainability and social responsibility. These efforts also allow us to create a sphere of influence that extends far past the boundaries of Gaia Farm — enabling meaningful meetings between, and bringing greater vitality to, plants and people around the world.

Certified Organic Farmers
From our neighbors in the hills and valleys of Western North Carolina to the rainforests of Indonesia or foothills of the Himalayas, our Certified Organic Farmers provide us with nearly 35% of our raw materials annually – herbs that can only reach their peak when grown in their natural habitat.

Many of the relationships we have with our Certified Organic Farmers are long-term and closely knit. We reach out and support them with ongoing training and consultation in organic farming methods, while helping to preserve the unique ways of life in their communities by offering fair market prices and promoting culturally sensitive practices.

Land Steward Harvesters
Our Land Steward Harvesters are a network of ecologically sensitive wildcrafters who gather native herbs grown naturally in forests, fields and other wilderness biogregions. Through these efforts they help supply us with close to 25% of our raw materials each year.

In the same manner in which we foster close relationships with our Certified Organic Farmers, we work with our Land Steward Harvesters to steward the land from which they harvest their herbs – upholding practices that maintain and protect these habitats for both the plants and the people who harvest them.

Validated Partners
In instances where we don’t have direct relationships with local harvesters or growers for certain herbs, our trusted wholesalers and brokers with connections to farmers and wildcrafters around the world, help supply us with nearly 15% of our herbs each year.

These partners – and the individuals they represent, are asked to follow organic and sustainable cultivation methods, which we validate through site visits and analytical testing of the raw materials themselves. In the interest of social responsibility, we also seek partnerships with brokers and dealers who have their own ethical practices in place, such as diverting profits back into indigenous communities for food, educational, cultural, infrastructure, and environmental programs.
