Herb Drug Interactions

This presentation provided an overview of the mechanisms which underlie drug/herb interactions. Methods were explored to determine when drug/herb interactions present clinically actionable cautions, and strategies to minimize the risk of drug/herb interactions will be shared. Finally, we reviewed examples of the current state of evidence for drug/herbs interactions for commonly recommended botanicals. Herbs discussed: Silybum marianum (Milk Thistle), Hypericum perforatum (St. John’s Wort), Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha), Curcuma longa (Turmeric), and Camellia sinensis (Green Tea).
